Chapter 7 Part 1 Review Materials for Naming and Formula Writing
Remediation:
If you did not do well on the Chapter 7 Test, I strongly encourage you to complete this worksheet. Seek help from a friend or make an appointment to meet with me. Naming and formula writing is an ESSENTIAL part of chemistry for the rest of the year. It will not be going away, so you need to give your best effort to have a clear understanding of this material!
Key Points to Remember:
**Correction: #15: AlPO4 ...this is what happens when you don't pay attention! Silly Mistakes!
Key Points to Remember:
- You must first classify the compound as an acid, covalent, or ionic compound.
- The word "ion" should never be part of a compound name.
- Chemical formulas should never include charges.
- Ionic Compounds and Acids require you to criss-cross the charges and then simplify if necessary. (Polyatomic ion formulas should never be simplified.)
- Covalent compounds use prefixes to identify the exact number of atoms present in the compound.
